Mid Century Modern is H O T right now. With stores like West Elm and Target now carrying this popular style you can get your Mid Century Modern “inspired” home furnishings, but there is nothing like the lines and quality of a piece of MCM furniture from the 1950’s-1970’s (think: skinny, peg legs on dressers and tables) with organic shapes, using new materials and methods to reimagine traditional pieces. The looks were futuristic, but they weren’t a total departure from the past.
The term, employed as a style descriptor as early as the mid-1950s, was reaffirmed in 1983 by Cara Greenberg in the title of her book, Mid-Century Modern: Furniture of the 1950s (Random House), celebrating the style that is now recognized by scholars and museums worldwide as a significant design movement.
We love each piece of MCM that comes in our store and know you will too.
